Why I love Positional Therapy (and what is it, anyways?)

I was introduced to positional release therapy in my early 20’s when I was suffering from chronic neck pain years after a whiplash injury. After 2 sessions, my debilitating neck pain was completely resolved, never to be seen again. I knew this was something I needed to study and was blessed to train with Lee Albert shortly after I graduated from massage school in 2017.

Because we have been trained in this culture to believe the rhetoric “no pain, no gain", I want to raise more awareness about this gentle and exquisite modality and how effective it is in reducing pain.

Why I practice Integrative Positional Therapy:
1.) Its EFFECTIVE and is scientifically proven to relax & release fascia, more so than other modalities.
2.) I listen to my body and my body LOVES to give this work.
3.) It HEALS and makes longer lasting changes.
4.) It’s meditative and gentle, and feels like craniosacral therapy meets yoga. YUM!
5.) Because IPT works directly with repatterining the nervous system to find more ease, it’s incredibly relaxing and soothing and brings a sense of safety to the whole mind/body system.

SO....What is Integrative Positional Therapy?

Integrative Positional Therapy, created by Lee Albert, combines strain-counter-strain (positional release), with muscle energy technique (MET), with yogic self care that helps to strengthen & stretch the body into a place of balance.

Strain-Counter-Strain (positional release) — originally coined by Lawrence Jones and used among osteopaths, this modality gently relaxes the muscles in spasm to allow them re-set, greatly decreasing pain & fascial constriction.

Muscle Energy Technique (MET): A specific way of stretching that activates the muscle fibers and allows for deep repatterining of the nervous system.

Finding Balance: For example, if the pelvis is out of balance, titled or twisted, certain muscles need to be relaxed and certain ones need to be stretched, and certain ones need to be strengthened in order to allow the bones, which are floating in the tension of the muscles & fascia, to come back to, and stay, in alignment.

Thank you for reading!
many blessings,
Leela
